Favorite Things - Feeding

No matter how much baby experience you have, feeding your baby comes with challenges and new things to learn. Whether you plan to breastfeed or bottle feed, getting your baby full is one of the most important things to focus on during those first few weeks. A full baby is going to grow and sleep well! But, just like everything else, we have to teach baby to take full feeds. Really focus on getting great feeds and making sure they are full. Remember, falling asleep is not a sign of fullness, it just means they are happy and snuggled up with you!

However you are going to feed your baby, there are some things that make it much easier. We polled our team of sleep consultants, who are also seasoned moms, to get their favorite feeding items!

  • Breast Pump - if you’re nursing, this is a must have. Even if you aren’t going back to work, you are going to have a time where you want to leave a bottle and you may need it to help stimulate or increase production. You can rent them but purchases are often covered by insurance. Check with your insurance company as they frequently have certain places you need to buy from. Here are two of our favorite ones: The Spectra S1 (they have a new model coming out on 11/27 that is amazing called the Signature Gold) and the Medela Pump in Style.

  • My Breast Friend - a nursing pillow is very helpful for getting baby in the right position to eat and giving your back a break. This one is our team’s favorite!

  • Bottle Warmer - if you’re going to do any significant pumping or use formula, this is a must have. It doesn’t seem like a big deal to heat your bottles up with hot water until you’re doing it 8x a day. Trust me.

  • Nursing Cover/Carseat Cover - we love a baby item that does double duty! Chances are, you will have to nurse in public at some point or just need a cover to keep nosy shoppers from touching your baby. This is our favorite style.

  • Bottles - Babies can be particular about their bottles. Some of the best advice I got as a new mom was to grab a few single packs of the ones I wanted to try and, when I found while one baby liked, grab a larger pack.
