Helping Your Newborn Sleep

When you have a baby, you know there will be sleepless nights ,but this doesn’t have to last long. With our New Baby Bootcamp, we help parents lay the foundations of sleep at a very young age. This doesn’t mean sleep training, more like having good sleep hygiene. We wanted to share our top tips that our customers find helpful when it comes to infant sleep.

TOP TIPS FOR NEWBORN SLEEP

  1. Start your baby’s day at the same time every day. This means you may have to wake up your baby, but that is ok! This gives your baby routine and consistency, something all children crave.

  2. Teach your baby WHEN to sleep. Don’t let your baby get overtired, teach your baby when their body should be sleeping. Infants do not have the ability to self-soothe, so you will need to help a lot with sleep. Rocking, contact naps, skin to skin, baby carriers, stroller rides, and car naps are all great ways to get your baby learning when they should be sleeping. At this phase we do not focus on where the nap happens (as long as it is safe), but rather the time the nap should be happening.

  3. Focus on full feeding. Establishing full feedings from the beginning is essential. During the daytime hours, if your baby is asleep and it has been 3 hours since their last feed, wake your baby up. We want to get a lot of calories in during daytime hours, so they will need less overnight.

At Sleep Baby, we are all about helping your family on your unique sleep journey. We would love to help your and YOU get more rest. If you would like to chat with someone on our team, fill out this form and someone will reach out soon.
