Sleeping soundly with Dreamland Baby

Who is Dreamland Baby?
Dreamland Baby was founded by Tara Williams, a mom of four with a baby who just wouldn’t sleep. She already had 3 kids at this point and thought she had this sleep thing figured out! Imagine the frustration when her 4th was just not having it (as babies tend to do!). Tara started experimenting with blankets of different weight and realized that her little man slept so much better with something a little heftier over him but couldn’t find a safe option. Her mother in law actually created the first prototype sleep sack and from there, Tara’s mind took off with ideas! I’ve spoken with Tara several times and her passion and love for her product is infectious. It is so refreshing to meet the face behind the brand and really love them! In 2020 Tara appeared on Shark Tank and the growth has been unreal. They have launched new products and expanded to being sold all over the US.
What does Dreamland Baby do?
Dreamland Baby makes weighted sleep sacks, weighted swaddles, and toddler sized weighted blankets. Each has been safety tested and is designed to be within 10% of your baby’s body weight. They have several sizes and the weight does not restrict your baby’s movement. The evenly distributed gentle pressure helps your baby’s systems calm down and their body settle into beautiful deep sleep! If you’ve slept with a weighted blanket as an adult, you know the feeling!
One of my favorite aspects of Dreamland Baby’s products is the quality. They are SO high quality which is very important to me as a mom. I don’t want anything with my babies when they are sleeping that doesn’t feel like great quality. I had looked for a weighted blanket for my oldest son for quite awhile and was very wary of ordering something off Amazon or another website without really being sure it was good quality. I’ve seen, touched, and used many products from Dreamland Baby and can vouch that they are made really well.
Dreamland Baby has also really thought about parents as they designed their sleep products. The swaddles are smaller versions of their sleep sacks with removable “wings” to wrap baby’s arms and help suppress their startle reflex. Hooray for a two in one product! Their sleep sacks are weighted on just one side and can be worn forward or backwards depending on how your little one sleeps. And they have that double zipper for easy diaper changes!
Our Review of Dreamland Baby’s products
We’ve used Dreamland Baby’s sleep sack with clients and my own son, Hayes, sleeps with one of their Toddler Weighted Blankets each night. My five year old has a lower drive to sleep and major FOMO. He even claims that he “never sleeps” because he just doesn’t want to miss one second of fun. Since he started sleeping with it I’ve seen him fall asleep more easily and sleep later in the morning. Plus he loves snuggling with the soft blanket! Obviously I felt like my kids were already pretty good sleepers (it’s part of the brand after all!) and I was very impressed with the change. Now both of his brothers want a “magic blanket” of their own. The toddler weighted blanket is designed for kids over 30 lbs and at 36 lbs, it’s a great fit for my son!
With clients whose babies or toddlers really seem to fight going to sleep or have a hard time struggling with night wakings, even after knowing how to self soothe, I love to recommend the gentle pressure of a Dreamland Baby Weighted Sleep Sack. I have seen babies go from waking frequently at night to sleeping 12 hours! Overtired babies often have a really hard time settling their bodies into deep sleep and a weighted sleep sack can give their bodies the extra help they need! I also like these for babies who exhibit a lot of physicality with their overtiredness. When we see kids who are slamming their feet on the mattress or toddlers who are head bangers, the pressure of a weighted sleep sack can be a great fit!
Weighted blankets have been growing in popularity with adults but, until Dreamland Baby, there really hasn’t been a safe, high quality option for babies and kids. More and more research is coming out about the benefits of this type of gentle pressure and I am a big fan of what Dreamland is doing, especially for toddlers! So many kids struggle with “turning it off” at night and giving them that extra little boost can make all the difference.
